My niece-in-law Stevi lost her beloved granny earlier this year. Her granny was a quilter, and as the nearest known quilter I have inherited some of her stash. I wont discuss what I plan to do with a lot of it, since Stevi will see this post ;). But I wanted to share a couple of things and ask a question. First, this absolutely adorable house block was among her things. I show a closeup too so you can see that the house is made of ticking. I love it! The ticking gives a lot of character and dimension to the design. I will be making this block into something for Stevi. Havent decided about whether to embellish it. I think it would take embellishment well, but I dont want to alter her grannys work too much. The second set of photos are of a piece of fabric from the stash; theres only about a yard of it, and I am hovering on the verge of loving it. The photo does NOT do it justice - the orange is almost neon bright, and avocado very rich. I suspect it is a piece that has been in her stash since the 1970s. The last photo is where I burned a piece of it trying to decide if it is 100% cotton, a blend, or a synthetic. You cant see it in the photo, but the fabric has a texture that is common in some crepe synthetics. The piece burned smoothly, with no curling or melting, so I am inclined to think it is 100% cotton. What do you think?
