My note in response to the strike update, emailed to ttm: Dear superintendent of schools, Thank you for your most recent update. I have a question about my high school daughters choir and orchestra classes. When will those classes be restored so that my daughter may return to a normal learning day? Please remember that as a parent I have paid significant fees for her to have marching band, choir, and orchestra instruction. I am not sure if I should expect to receive a refund or a resumption in the classes the school district promised her. Next, I have a question about online instruction. My daughter attempted to take an online class this summer in order to get ahead on her high school credit. She did not feel she did very well in the class; she is an A student and struggled to get a b grade. When will my daughter be able to receive the in-person instruction that is best suited to her learning style? As she is an identified gifted learner Im sure you understand it is very important for her instruction to meet her individual needs and be aligned with her learning plan. My next question centers on my 5th grader who is a gateway student at waggoner road jr high. I am gravely concerned that her instruction will not be the instruction that she needs. I am not confident that the level and content of the instruction under this temporary new order of things will be aligned with her education plan. Can you please provide specific details on how her instruction will be tailored to meet her individual plans requirements? Regarding all three of my students, and all reynoldsburg students, I would like to inquire whether all open substitute teaching positions have been filled by certified substitute teachers. Can you please provide verification that my children are receiving instructions from teachers, not from babysitters? And, can you confirm that all positions have been filled prior to the start of the school day tomorrow? I am understandably concerned that the student teacher ratios do not meet minimum state educational requirements. My final question for you is this: you have said that you will not providing any additional attempts to settle on a contract to to get our schools out of this crisis. In essence, you have told the teachers union to take it or leave it. In the absence of any further good-faith negotiations, what is your plan to reestablish a productive and individualized learning environment for each of my three children still in the reynoldsburg city schools district? As a mother of a valedictorian from the 2014 graduating class and a frequent volunteer at school and extracurricular activities, I believe it is evident that I put my childrens education at the forefront of my concerns. Must my family also take it or leave it? Will I be forced to sell my home and move to another district in order to secure for them an appropriate, quality education in all of their enrolled subjects? Or will you and the school board take this opportunity to lead a successful compromise for the sake of our students? I look forward to your prompt reply. Thank you for your time, Alice Smith
