My question (Thursday) to the Minister of Natural Resources earlier today asking him to intervene and ensure a positive future for the Fort Frances mill. CAMPBELL PRESSES LIBERAL GOVERNMENT FOR SOLUTION TO FORT FRANCES MILL CRISIS Queen’s Park – Sarah Campbell, NDP MPP for Kenora-Rainy River, continued to press the minister responsible for forestry today for a solution to ensure the continued operation of the kraft mill in Fort Frances. “Minister, you met with the Rainy River district delegation that travelled to Queen’s Park to ask you and the Premier for your government’s help with ensuring the mill in their town resumes operations. They have asked for your help, and as minister you have a responsibility to the people of Fort Frances,” Campbell said. “As minister you need to involve yourself and your ministry in helping to broker a solution. You know as well as I do that there is more than enough wood in Crossroute Forest to meet the needs of all parties and therefore this should be a win-win situation.” The delegation came 1800 kilometers to Queen’s Park after the business deal fell apart, “…because this is a government-related problem having to do with the forest license. It’s a problem that requires a simple solution,” Campbell said. “Minister, the Rainy River district and I are asking you to do your job and help broker a solution that creates jobs in Atikokan, Ignace, and Thunder Bay and saves 1,000 jobs in Fort Frances.
