My rant of the day haha. Still looking for contestants! I am reflecting on my old days as former Marketing Chair for the Milwaukee New Year. Back then, we had websites where contestants could download applications. Information was always readily available. And we had board members who picked up their phones and they knew how to use emails. The marketing campaign would begin in July, with flyers handed out at J4 in MN. Then we would have a booth in Oshkosh/GB during labor day. And new year/pageant flyers were posted in every major Asian/Hmong store in the area. And we would have online marketing advertisements and free giveaways. Its all based on sacrifice and hard work. Id spend hours to travel and promote this event, going on lone mission while starving to post up flyers. Id stay up late at night with my team relaying information to make sure the website was updated and the flyers were made by the dead line. We drew in youth from the community to contribute to this event. The New Year chair would pay out of pocket for food during meetings and pay for the website charges. Id go out and buy boards and print pictures for the new year booths. Sad to see that weve lost all of that in the Milwaukee community. Oh well, theres always next year. -Not hating on the new group. Everyone has to learn somehow and start somewhere. Im just sad more than anything. I worked so hard to build something up...only to see it crash and burn off the face of the earth...I even offered to help save it, but got no response. I guess this corrosion is what happens when valuing clan ties over merit, high hubris, Hmong time/procrastination, and inexperience blend. Whatever the case, I still love the Miss Hmong WI pageant. Ive seen all the contestants (win or lose) grow from the intense training that they received from this pageant. Participants make life long friends and connections. Several contestants became student org leaders in college or became leaders in the community. You never know what doors may open due to this experience. Ive gained many great friends and met lots of new leaders by being a part of this pageant and I didnt even compete. I challenge you all to step up your game and help keep this great addition to the Hmong WI community alive. I dont want to see this pageant burn down too. Register for the 2015 MISS HMONG WI PAGEANT. Keep the legacy alive. shrdo/index.php/suabhmong-news/hmong-news/2487-milwaukee-hmong-new-year-is-looking-for-more-miss-hmong-to-compete-in-the-2014-15-miss-hmong-wisconsin-pageant
