My reverse journey across the Proletariat trilogy led me to this - TopicsExpress

My reverse journey across the Proletariat trilogy led me to this wonderful film, a story of Taisto Kasurinen, a Finnish coal miner, whose life takes strange turns after his father commits suicide. As is popularly said, and I too believe it after the two Akis I have watched, his characters are unbelievably awesome. The way he sketches every person, is at once deeply appealing, slightly unsettling and too real. His cinema speaks a language of its own, dialogues are less but brilliant, and his actors deliver perfectly (this is the brilliance of Aki). Not everybody knows minimalism but Aki makes sure his actors do and this imparts an unique feel to his movies. Ariel was no exception, and also as pacy as any good thriller, which surprised me, because I wasnt expecting that, and overall it is a great film. Turo Pajala is incredible in his role as Taisto and the film has some great music, cleverly used. Can anybody tell me the song which they played on the radio while escaping prison? I did not think this had the very disturbing feel of The Match Factory Girl but was more on the warmer side, and an awesome movie in its own right. At this moment, I really cannot place any of the two movies above the other, both were so different and yet so real. I love Aki Kaurismaki shall be my only conclusion. :D
