My riding lesson on Zayn this evening has left me feeling very humbled and grateful. I was in the stall 6 years ago on the night Zayn was born. Ive spent countless hours out in the field playing with him and watching him grow up into a beautiful, grey giant. And being able to climb upon a horse youve known since the second he entered the world is really just an incredible experience in itself. And even though he may not have turned out to be a grand show horse that is heading to the green shavings in a few weeks, he is helping me prepare for my journey there. And I think that makes him just as special as any horse heading into Freedom Hall. I think in the whirl wind of it all, we tend to forget about our countless partners who have been there at the break of dawn and in the late of the night, giving their all in practice rides, but never getting to see the glory of their efforts in the show ring. They may not get to carry the blue ribbons, but I think theyre just as much theirs as they are ours. So heres to them! Thank you Zayn, Sport, and Jack, for helping all of the girls at Royal Winds live out our dreams! You all deserve all the peppermints you can eat! Heres to the champions. And the future champions. And the someday, maybe champions. And the horses that will always be our own, everyday champions.
