My sides are still a little sore from laughing so hard last night at the Absolute Comedy club on Princess Street here in K-Town. Chris Timms, Matt Watson warmed up the audience and then headliner Doug Funk completely slayed us all with his unique outlook on life. Im now a Funk fan and, given his talent, I was surprised that the club wasnt packed. I started thinking that comedians are a lot like musicians - only the best of them can really pull it off LIVE. However, no matter how good they are, the degree to which the audience reacts to their material can make or break their show, because the performer feeds off the energy of the crowd. The audience last night clearly came to the show with the intention of having a good time, and the energy was high, just like at a great rock show. I highly recommend the live comedy experience - its so much better than watching it on TV. Absolute Comedy and the hard-working funny people they hire to entertain us certainly would enjoy and appreciate your support. Its not a real expensive outing, and the food there is good, too. AND if youre lucky enough you might even catch local up-and-comer Geoff McKays sound effects routine. ;)
