My sincere thanks to all of you who have reached out in the last - TopicsExpress

My sincere thanks to all of you who have reached out in the last twenty four hours and acknowledged the good news regarding my health. Along those lines, let me share something far greater in terms of importance and challenge you to participate with me. There are inordinate numbers of people every day taking chemotherapy at various locations right here in the greater Indianapolis area. Many of them go it alone, with no spouse, children, or even a friend to support them. Join me in periodically visiting these treatment centers and surprising someone with a cap or a shirt that I have Secured from sports television settings, and watch them smile when you converse with them and hold their hand. Tell a child you care and admire their bravery or tell a lady how pretty she is. Perhaps you can listen to an elderly patient as they articulate how grateful they are just to have some conversation and fellowship as they sit there and allow the therapy to hopefully do something magical. Powerful stuff indeed. I assure you what you get in return will move you like nothing you have ever experienced. Sure, there will be times when someone you have bonded with may not be there the next time you visit as that is the nature of this dreadful disease, but there will be others you can inspire and give hope to, and that will honor those who have bravely and certainly with great dignity lost the good fight. It only takes a little time to give comfort, hope, and compassion to someone who is down a bunch in the fourth quarter just trying to make it to overtime and it will be arguably the most important thing you will ever do in your life. As someone who went it alone (Please, no sympathy for me) I can tell you what a boost it will be for those you visit. If interested, contact me for details on how you can join me. My thanks to all my sports colleagues who have donated hats and shirts, and in the process provided a bit of joy to those who are telling cancer to take a hike. In closing, R.I. P. Howie, as today would have been your twelfth birthday. Without going through treatment, I never would have met you. Your spirit continues to move us all and I miss you. I hope you approve of my visiting others in your honor. I do hope to see you again someday, be it this side or the other. Please know that I love you.
