My thoughts and prayers are with Beryl Van der Scholtz-Botman, her and Russels (Professor Russel Botmans) children and the rest of their family on this new day in South Africa. Beryl, you will be gathered on this 5th day Of July, 2014 to say good bye to your husband, Russel...his life with you. I continue to pray for you during this time, for the strength to be there day by day, for your children and those around you. No words can truly bring the comfort you need, but please know that there is one more person far away who cares... There are many of us who have loved and respected Russel, and still do, and will miss him dearly. His love for humanity, his gentle presence, his sharp, intelligent mind, his sense of justice and equality, his humility and so much more...will be a reminder of how the human soul elevated as his was...can walk among us, touch us, teach us, and leave us in a way well never be the same again. His is a legacy of the transformation of heart and mind; and a life of justice, peace and inclusion of all humanity. Russel...its goodbye for a little while. You were not just only the head of this incredible higher education institution, but you have been a leader of faith, of the kind of spirituality that brings us all to another level in life. Thank you for your life of Kairos, for a theology of freedom, justice and reconciliation you offered many, and for the enormous grace you lived your life among us.
