Since 1997, a major change occurred in health policy in the U.S. with the start of the Back to Sleep campaign to reduce SIDS. Though this campaign has undoubtedly reduced the number of SIDS deaths, it has also impacted the way our infants develop and our parenting behaviors. Most babies get significantly reduced time spent for tummy play now. Decreased tummy time increases the risk of torticollis (neck tightening on one side), plagiocephaly (altered skull shape), and slows down motor milestones. Babies need tummy time from day ONE!
