My very first first-author paper has finally been published! This represents a culmination of the research I did as an undergraduate at Duke, which I have been whipping into shape for publication during my spare time over the last three years. Im very proud of this work, which wouldnt have been possible without the patient and caring mentorship provided by Karen Miga and Hunt Willard, co-authors and dear friends who will forever be part of my science family :) The article is published in PLoS Computational Biology, a well-respected, peer-reviewed, open-access journal, so anyone can view and download it for free. Please read it, world! The tl;dr version of the paper: The Human Genome Project ignored big chunks of the genome containing complex repetitive DNA sequences, so we came up with new methods to study some of these missing DNA sequences using available data.
