M’membe Likens Oasis Leaders to “Student Unionists” Patriotic Front aligned Post Newspaper owner Fred M’membe has lashed out at the progressive Oasis Forum likening its leaders to student unionists. In his editorial of Sunday January 19, 2014 M’membe alleged that the Oasis Forum were as mediocre as they perceived the President Michael Sata led leadership. This was all because the strong civil society grouping comprising the Law Association of Zambia, LAZ, church mother bodies and other CSOs are calling for better leadership from President Sata. The Oasis Forum has also mounted pressure on President Sata to give Zambians a people driven constitution. Fred M’membe has neither written an editorial nor reminded Sata of the promise he made on the constitution. “The Oasis Forum is saying “arrogance and a know-it-all attitude are what lead to the fall of regimes”. But they are exhibiting the same arrogance and know-it-all attitude. Their statement seriously lacks humility and respect for others. It actually reads like a statement produced by a college student union executive,” M’membe’s editorial states “And it is wrong for the Oasis Forum to think they are the only ones who are committed to this country and its future, the only ones who know what the future of this country should be like. “There are many other patriots, including in our opposition political parties and in the ruling party, who have made more gigantic sacrifices for the betterment of the masses of our people than these highly paid NGO executives, lawyers and church secretary generals. “The Oasis Forum concludes its statement by saying, “this is a year of cleansing. Mediocrity will not be accepted.” But their whole statement cannot pass the mediocrity test. So it should not surprise them if their mediocrity will not be accepted by others in the same way they will not accept the mediocrity of others. “It is clear that the Oasis Forum – which was formed in February 2001 and steered by a very respectable, sober-minded and mature Mark Chona to stop Frederick Chiluba’s attempt to change the constitution and give himself a third term – has lost direction, respect and influence. And if changes are not made in the way the Oasis Forum operates, it will soon become as discredited as some of our political parties.” When M’membe is pushing a constitutional agenda, he finds the Oasis Forum convenient to abuse to advance his cause but has dumped them this time that he he dining with Sata and finds their push for a people driven a waste of time. M’membe is also alleging that Oasis Forum members are only interesting in huge salaries but neglects to admit he is championing whatever causes today to protect his interests of transporting copper, maize and other commodities through Post courier which the general secretaries he is soon going to focus his ammunitions on do not engage in. zambiareports/2014/01/21/mmembe-likens-oasis-leaders-student-unionists/
