NASIR: Rebel Setback as SPLA Crushes Nasir Offensive. #SouthSudan Amid alleged divisions among SPLA military commanders and the political leaders in Juba whether to abandon the ceasefire, the SPLA has dealt rebel hopes of resuming talks on a high after defeating the rebel forces on Thursday. The UN Deputy Spokesperson while speaking in New York corroborated the reports saying that the rebels abandoned Nasir yesterday following fierce clashes with the SPLA yesterday. No UN or civilians sheltering at the UN base were injured. The rebels managed to take control of some parts of Nasir town last week sparking international and regional condemnations. SPLA commanders on the ground, said their forces drove the rebel forces out of Nasir and its surrounds yesterday afternoon. SPLA also said it will not be pursuing the fleeing rebels and will respect the orders of the President and the CoGS GEN Malong who have issued orders forbidding SPLA from carrying out offensive operations.
