NATIONAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT OFFICE (NDMO) UPCOMING ACTIVITIES The National Disaster Management Office wishes to inform members of the public about a series of upcoming events that will hosted in the Mahalapye and Palapye Sub-Districts, which will culminate with the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) on the 17th October 2013 in Sefhare village. These events are aimed at creating a platform to raise awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction programs in the country at National, District and Community levels. 1. On the 14th -15th October 2013, participants from District Disaster Management Committees from all the Districts across the country will meet at Majestic Five Hotel in Palapye to share experiences and discuss the preparedness measures for the upcoming rainfall season of 2013/2014. This includes also coming up with a proposal for necessary strategic planning to enhance emergency response in the country. The workshop will be attended by 120 delegates from various District Disaster Management Committees, Directors of various departments, development partners and some of the neighboring countries’ Disaster Management Agencies. 2. The 16th October 2013 will see the NDMO and its stakeholders engage in a community social responsibility project geared towards assisting the needy in the host village of this year’s IDDR. 3. The 17th October 2013, will be the International Day for Disaster Reduction in Sefhare, at Sefhare Primary school Grounds starting at 0800hrs in the morning. This year’s theme is; A Not So Obvious Conversation Living with Disability and Disasters. Members of the public in Sefhare and neighboring villages are especially encouraged to attend this event to learn more about issues relating to disaster risks which often affect them and their communities.
