NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF NUPE FOUNDATION (NINIBO NUPE) - OMMISSION OF NUPE ETHNIC NATIONALITY FROM THE NATIONAL CONFAB The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nupe Foundation (NINBO NUPE), a Socio-cultural organization for all Nupe people living in Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa States, FCT, and in Diaspora, hereby invites all Nupe who are members of the NEC to attend an emergency meeting holding as follows; Venue: Nupe Foundation National Secretariat, at the Ancient City of Bida Date: Saturday 29th March, 2014 Time : 11 a.m. prompt Agenda: To ratify the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) to order immediate withdrawal of all Nupe from the ongoing National Conference as a protest to the outlandish Exclusion of Nupe from the 90 slots (15 per Geographical Zone) allocated to the ethnic nationalities to the on-going National conference. Once again, we commend the wisdom of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for convening this historic assembly, which more than any other achievements of his administration is bound to receive the most resounding accolades of posterity. The NWC, however observed that it is simply outlandish and abuse of history that, at a time, when a national conference whose highest number of delegates (90) about 20% was drawn from the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, not one Nupe is deemed fit to be among the 90 ethnic nationalities, out of the total number of delegates (492) from all the various categories that constitute the membership of the Confab. As a matter of fact, Nupes being the number four ethnic nationality in the country in terms of population and spread should naturally occupy a position of prominence in the number of delegates, among the ethnic nationality category, to the conference. The NWC further observed that History, both ancient and contemporary has it that the Nupe, either as a people or as individuals played prominent roles that have shaped the history of our country today. Historically, they are noted as great fishermen and boatmen, great farmers and artisans, great merchants and warriors, great men and women with great love for their culture and environment. Nupe has great scholars, educationists, agriculturalists, administrators, military men, politicians, etc. out of which the under listed proud sons and daughters of Nupe have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers and were found worthy of representing other interests at the Confab, such as Hon. Idris Legbo Kutigi, GCON, Dujuma Nupe, former Chief Justice of the Federation, representing the Federal Government as the Chairman of the National Confab, Professor Jerry Gana, CON, Haske Nupe, nominated to represent the Elder Statesmen from the North Central, Engr. A. A. Kure, Sarikin Yakin Nupe, former Governor Niger State, a nominee of the Federal Government, etc. It should be noted that these distinguished Nupe were first Nupe before becoming notable and recognized in their chosen fields of endeavour, the same way other ethnic nationalities were selected for representation in other categories in addition to their kith and kens proudly representing their ethnic nationalities at the confab. The NWC therefore observed with dismay the conspiracy against the Nupe, and the urgent need to stop these conspirators who choose to love Nupe for what we are but not who we are. Who we are, we are. It will be recalled that several representations have been made by the Nupe Foundation to relevant Federal Government authorities calling their attention to the urgent need to correct this unacceptable MISTAKE to no avail. May God protect and bless you as you come. Thank you. Engr. Y. Y. Sani National President
