NBN rollout progresses for CBD, Central South and West Dubbo Dubbo City Council welcomes the commencement of preparation to build a fibre to the premises connection to the National Broadband Network (NBN) for residents and businesses located in the CBD, Central South and West Dubbo, based on recent updates to the maps on the NBN Co website. Mayor of Dubbo, Councillor Mathew Dickerson said the news comes in the wake of last month’s announcement by NBN Co that build preparation for a fixed line NBN connection was underway for 2,700 premises in East Dubbo. “I am pleased NBN Co has commenced preparation to build a fibre to the premises connection for premises in the City’s Central Business District, parts of Central South and West Dubbo,” Clr Dickerson said. “A fibre to the premises connection will provide fast, reliable broadband for over 760* businesses located in the CBD, creating the opportunity to reliably market and sell products globally, improve operational efficiency and change the way our locally-based enterprises do business in the future.” “Residents in parts of Central South and West Dubbo will also enjoy the opportunities and benefits provided by fast, reliable broadband in the areas of education, business, entertainment, health and sociability.” Clr Dickerson said preparation to build a fibre to the premises connection covering the City’s central commercial precinct was a step in the right direction for Dubbo. “This is an extremely positive move forward for the City with key educational facilities to be included in the latest roll out including a primary school, high school and TAFE campus,” Clr Dickerson said. “I am thrilled to see well-established areas of Dubbo receive confirmation that build preparation for a fibre to the premises connection to the NBN is underway; however I will continue pushing for the whole of our City to have access to the NBN as a matter of priority.” NBN Co advises it takes on average 12 months from the start of construction until residents and business owners can access services over the NBN from phone and internet providers.
