NC faces rebellion in KargilDisgruntled Cadres Move No-Confidence Motion Against LAHDC-Kargil Chairman, DecideTo Field Independent Candidate With Support Of Islamia School For Parliament ElectionsLOK SABHA POLLS-2014MURTAZA ALI(Same Published in Greater Kashmir)SmallerDefaultLargerKargil, Mar 14: Facing virtual rebellion in Kargil, National Conference (NC) leadership and its cadres in the desert district have decided not totransfer its vote to the Congress candidate fromLeh Rigzin Spalbar who is likely to contest upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Ladakh seat. NC cadres have decided to instead field its owncandidate for Ladakh seat with full backing of the Islamia School Kargil. This was announced by senior NC leaders after taking out a massive rally in Kargil after Friday prayers today. The statement comes close on the heels of NC leaders’ decision to submit a no-confidence motion against Congress leader and chairman Ladakh Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil Asgar Karbalai.“When we reached the office of DC Kargil, the DC was not present there, neither was Additional DC present. Even Assistant Commissioner Revenue wasn’t present as well. We handed over the no-confidence motion against Karbalai to an official in the DC office in the presence of Adll. SP Kargil, Mohmad Yonous Bhat and Dy.SP Hqr, Abdul Khaliq” a senior NC leader said.“The motion has been signed by 10 NC councilors. Now it is DC Kargil’s prerogative as to when he would fix a day for the LAHDC-Kargilchairman to prove majority,” he said.NC leaders while addressing the rally made it clear that they submitted vote of no-confidenceagainst Karbalai following the fact that he was anti-NC.Former chairman of LAHDC-Kargil, Kachoo Ahmed Khan said NC high-command should not issue a whip to its leaders in Kargil this time around. “It was after party president Dr Farooq Abdullah’s intervention last time, we allowed Congress leader Karbalai to continue. But the situation is altogether different this time,” he said.Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Rasool Naqvi, an NC councilor, said Congress will fail to prove the majority as NC has 16 members in LAHDC-Kargil. “We want to make it clear that we won’t transfer our vote to Congress candidate for LS polls who is from Leh. We would instead field an independent candidate who will have full backing of Islamia School Kargil,” he said.Pertinently, Islamia School has been dominant on the political arena of Kargil since the past somany decades as the institute is known for its religio-political activities besides imparting education to students and it also influences theelectoral politics. In the present council, NC hadthree candidates affiliated with Islamia School. In his speech, Haji Inayat Ali, president youth wing of Islamia School accused NC leadership of back-stabbing Kargil by allowing seat sharing arrangement with Congress. “The NC has ditched us. The party leadership did not take us on board while agreeing to leave Ladakh seat to Congress,” he said. “This was done despite the fact we have always supported NC candidates be that Ghulam Hassan Khan who won Lok Sabha elections in 2008, or its candidates for assembly polls.”He said if NC issues a whip once again, “we will be left with no option but to part ways from the party and field our own candidate
