NCAA TENNIS Go to ITA Tennis today. Go to live video. I suggest you have your junior players watch the beginning of the dual matches being played at this years NCAA national tournament. The dual matches start with doubles. Heres eight to be great pointers for doubles: 1) You need two things to be a serve and volleyer..... a serve and a volley. 2) If you dont serve and volley, you dont serve and volley. 3) If you play one-up-one-back doubles as a freshmen in high school, you will do the same as a sophomore. 4) Dont play an inferior system. 5) Begin with the end in mind. 6) Make mistakes but make the right mistakes. 7)One-up-one-back only works against one-up-one-back. 8) Find a partner that wants to play real big time tactics. Go to our on-line course, Tennis Intelligence Applied. It is free on tennissmith. It has 29 chapters on doubles. Each chapter is just a few minutes long. It would have been great if the USTA had added a couple of rules for Quick Start tennis. For technique, each Early Childhood Development Class should start and end with a three minute form tournament.. Kids need to study on-line posters of the best pros in the world. Prizes would make it work. One poster, for example, would be Roger Federer holding his racquet in the salute position for both the serve and overhead. Another drill would be having, yes, little kids playing one bounce doubles. After the service return, all four players should be at the net. One should develop the right instincts to go forward from the beginning stages. The attached video shows a junior college team that we coached. The team won the NJCAA doubles with all players serving and volleying.. Thanks for sharing. Steve Smith
