NDP closes historic convention united and inspired Toronto – Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says New Democrats wrapped up their historic convention united and inspired. “We had a great convention. Im so proud of my fellow New Democrats and the values our party stands for,” said Horwath. “We worked hard, had passionate debates and heard inspiring speeches. Were leaving this weekend strong, united, and energized,” said Horwath. This past weekend, a record turnout of more than 1,100 delegates from across the province gathered in Toronto to debate policy, pass resolutions, elect a new executive, and pay tribute to members who passed away, including legendary MPP Peter Kormos. Delegates also resoundingly affirmed their trust in Horwath’s leadership with a 77 per cent vote of confidence. “As convention closes, the hard work now begins. New Democrats are leaving this weekend with renewed vigour to build a fairer and more progressive Ontario. We will continue to fight for better healthcare, good-paying jobs, improved childcare and a cleaner environment.” - 30 -
