NEW M4 MEMBER PROFILE/INTERVIEW: CHRISTOPHER HILL! Please read and share your thoughts on my interview with Christopher, one of our longest and most active members of M4! Thanks for agreeing to this interview Christopher, and I especially appreciate your thoughts on trailers and love your idea for the movie youd make if you were an uber movie producer/director. His obvious love for film shines brightly in the many posts he shares on films on his own Facebook page, M4 and other sites. Ive long wanted to have him as a member profile/interview for M4 to have him tell us about some of his thoughts on aspects of the movies and it was well worth the wait! Tell us a bit about yourself, Christopher. I have a Bachelors in Theatre from Adrian College, two minors: Art & Religion. So, I am an artist who grew up watching and loving movies. Whats your first conscious memory of movie viewing? Was it on tv or the theater or drive-in? What was the movie? Wow! (looks in deep thought) My first film viewing experience. In the theater. Star Wars. Whore your fave actor, actress and director? Whats your fave films of each? Actor: Favorite actor. Its hard. Errol Flynn. The Adventures Of Robin Hood. Actress: Kim Novak. Bell, Book & Candle. Director: Currently: Christopher Nolan. The Dark Knight. Classics or contemporary films? Both. But, I find myself liking classic films more. If you could only watch five movies for the rest of your life--what would they be, and why? Good question. After thinking it through, I decided on the following: 1. Singin In The Rain. I feel its the ultimate feel-good movie. The dancing from Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O Connor. The comedy relief from Donald OConnor and Jean Hagen is enough to put a smile on anyones face. 2. The Adventures Of Robin Hood.- Ive always been a fan of Robin Hood, esp. Errol Flynns portrayal. He was the best, hands down. 3. The Matrix. Its one of those films that had an profound effect on me when I saw it in theatres. I love films like that where theyre cerebral. Enough to make you think outside the box. 4.To Kill A Mockingbird. I wasnt familiar with it (the book or the film), at first. That film Ill forever be in debt towards. Years ago, I had the opportunity to play Tom Robinson (Brock Peters character in the film) in the off-campus play. It was an experience that Ill never forget. I watched it with friends, and the film moved me. Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch was phenomenal. And, last but not least, #5 would be Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows. I love the character of Sherlock Holmes. Ive seen different film interpretations of Sherlock Holmes from Nicol Williamson in The 7% Solution to Robert Downey Jr. in the Guy Richie Sherlock Holmes films. With Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows, it is completely unorthodox and yet it kept the spirit of the original character. Its well-written, has a combination of action, comedy and the special effects are downright cool. Is there a movie thats generally beloved that you dont care for? What is it and why? Conversely, is there a movie most people cant stand that you like? Titanic. Not to underplay the tragic event itself, but, there are a combination of things why I dont like that film. Director James Cameron constantly pushing it then and now, the annoying Celine Dion song, etc. The film felt as if it was aimed at one demographic: teenage girls who had a crush on Leonardo di Caprio than trying to tell a historical story. The last hour of the film was true. All of the tragic events of having stowaways and the poor being locked up in the lower decks were overlooked. My favorite film that not everybody likes is John Carter. Are there any recent or upcoming films that youre particularly excited about? Any trends in film recently that you find interesting or disturbing? 12 Years A Slave (recent), X:Men:Days Of Future Past, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Dallas Buyers Club, American Hustle & The Wolf Of Wall Street. The current trend in films that I find disturbing is the premise of the barrage of the lowest common denominator trailers. The tendency to go for the lowbrow. Also, it is as if they believe in giving too much away. They should go with a less is more approach. If you were an uber movie producer and/or director, what movie would you most like to create? I would make a biopic on an unknown artist, like Jacob Lawrence or a Patrick Nagel. Thanks so much, Christopher Hill! Much appreciated! Thanks for being such a great member of M4.
