The capture was created during a final performance by The Living Theatre; Julian Beck is shown surrounded by his troupe and the audience. The layered effect is achieved through successive multiple exposures to highlight the spectacle... whose aim was to present theatre designed to "dissolve complacency in the audience in all endeavors." The print captures the process of dissolving the barriers between troupe and audience; it was made directly from the original negative... what is seen is as actually captured. It is Signed and Dated. Beck, an anarchist, left the United States with his troupe in 1968, reportedly to avoid pressing income tax problems. They continued to work in Europe and later Brazil. Beck died of cancer in 1985.
