NEWS RELEASE: A new traffic control light has been added to the intersection of 4th and Center Streets in Douglas as a result of numerous conversations between the City of Douglas and the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), as well as several traffic studies. This light is intended to alleviate the congestion caused by northbound motorists on 4th Street waiting to turn left (westbound) on Center Street. This control light features a green turning arrow, which will allow such drivers the opportunity to turn in rotation with southbound traffic. This light will initially be active from 11:30 a.m.–6:15 p.m. Monday through Friday, and has the ability to be set for special dates and times — such as during Wyoming State Fair — when increased traffic and congestion may be expected. During non-active hours, the arrow will remain blinking amber. This is an indication that turning is allowed, but drivers should use caution when approaching and turning and do not have the right of way over southbound traffic. Pedestrians should be aware when the green arrow is active the do not walk indicator will also be active for those walking north and south on the west side of the intersection. Both pedestrians and drivers should be attentive as they drive or walk through the intersection. These settings and hours are not written in stone, however, and WYDOT will continue to due statistical studies to gauge the lights effectiveness. If necessary to better fulfill its objective, these hours of operation and settings may be subject to change.
