NEWS UPDATE @ 9AM WITH Orange Uganda: KCCA OFFICERS DEPLOYED TO ARREST BUYERS OF STREET GOODS: Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) enforcement officers are deployed around Kampala to arrest all those caught buying goods from street vendors. KCCA executive Director Jennifer Musisi last week confirmed that anyone found buying goods from street vendors would be arrested for supporting an illegal activity. HIV/AIDS CONTROL BILL DEFERRED: The HIV/AIDS control bill has been postponed for further consultation following controversy in clause 41 of the bill which criminalises the premeditated transmission of HIV from one person to another. The clause stipulates that any person who intentionally transmits HIV to another person commits an offense and upon conviction shall be liable to a sentence of life in prison. KIU DEGREE AWARDED TO KENYAN POLITICIAN TO BE WITHDRAWN: A committee tasked by the National Council of Higher Education to investigate the award of degrees at Kampala International University, KIU, has suggested that a degree awarded last year to a Kenyan politician be withdrawn. This is after it was found that the degree KIU awarded to Ali Hassan Joho, the governor of the coastal town of Mombasa falls short on the NCHEs limit of awarding degrees in Uganda.
