NEWS UPDATE: The Ogun State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has called for the immediate sack of the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr N.l Odubela, over the closure of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, last week Saturday. The body, in a statement, signed by Folarin Olayinka and Femi Agunbiade, chairman and secretary respectively, that the decision to shut the institution, following the students’ agitation on the demand for an immediate effect on government’s pronouncement on fees reduction was a ‘big disappointment’ and ‘demonstration of weakness.’ Meanwhile, the Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has urged Senator Amosun, to toe a path of honour by keeping to his promise of finding solutions to the issues raised by the students. The party condemned in strong terms the closure of the institution, following the students’ agitation for immediate reduction in their school fees. “We, in Labour Party, implore the governor, to follow the path of honour by keeping his promise to resolve the issue as being done in the civilised world because it will be unfair not to consider the students, who have just resumed the 2012/2013 academic session and cannot wait until 2014/2015 academic session before benefiting from the said reduction,” the party stated.
