NGO jobs Vacancies in Nigeria at MacArthur Foundation Today October 2013 POSITION OVERVIEW The Deputy Director will be responsible for assisting the Director in the development and implementation of strategic plans and policies of the Foundation and will also provide leadership and guidance to other employees . As commander of the Nigeria Office , the final candidate will be an energy, high for the intelligent individual who thrives in a fast and dynamic challenging environment . This person has demonstrated through his / her career the ability to successfully deal with ambiguity and manage both up and down . In addition, the individual will have the reputation of working strategically with discretion, integrity and ethical decision-making , without fear of being ” hands-on” with a high degree of responsiveness, attention to detail and common sense. Moreover, it is expected that this individual will have the combination of talent and motivation to lead and achieve set performance targets within the company. This executive will work with officials of relevant grants and government agencies. He / She will serve as a representative of the Foundation and other constituents in situations requiring tact and diplomacy. As a key member of the management team , the new deputy director will work with the director and staff of Chicago, also with government , academic and political communities in the region. The Deputy Director will also manage a portfolio of grants in accordance with the director and can serve as an expert in the area in one of the area (s ) of the population and reproductive health, girls’ secondary education and / or human rights and international justice . In short, the person who will serve as deputy director has three distinct functions as an Executive Director , Program Officer and as a representative of the Office in the absence of the Director. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Deputy Director will be responsible for the office in the absence of the Director. This person will be a leader who will provide hands on day-to- day public relations serve as spokesperson for the program areas in Nigeria and as a person with the public affairs office of Chicago. As a member of the management team base , he or she will provide expert and objective issues advice to the Foundation . He / She will remain the main up-to- time activities of country offices to remain ready to intervene if necessary . With the Director, the new deputy director will also co- manage the flow of communication to and from the office. With the rest of the management team, this person should be a strong and proactive advocate for the values and characteristics of the foundation. Specific responsibilities are listed below, but are not limited to the following and can be changed at any time with or without notice : Chief • Manage the overall administration of the Office of Nigeria , including personnel management . • May supervise staff . • Prepare and coordinate the travel of staff from Nigeria and visitors bureau in Chicago. • Manage grant application forms , lists and other documents issued to the public . • Draft annual administrative budget for Nigeria office. • Manage contracts outside consultants Supervise monthly expense reporting , ensuring budgetary compliance, approve the expenditure of funds . • Oversee the updating information relating to country offices for the site. Program Officer • Manage a portfolio of grants and serve as an expert in the area in consultation with the Director in one or more field (s ) of the population and reproductive health, primary education for girls and / or human rights and international justice . • Collaborate with other grant makers and relevant government agencies . • Review and assess the ongoing work in areas where non-repayable assistance is active or when the Foundation has donated future interests. • Manage or assist in the design and implementation of new strategies and initiatives. management • Represent the Office in the absence of the Director. • Lead the planning process , to help in the formulation and implementation of strategic objectives and initiatives MacArthur . • Serve as a confidant and advisor to the director . • Provide recommendations to improve performance. • Provide leadership in the development of programs and organizational plans with the Director and staff. • Perform other tasks and support a program of work assigned director . SKILLS AND experience requirements A background in senior management with a track record of success and accomplishment in one of the organizations of similar size and scope is desired. This person must have extensive experience in general management , which must include the current experiment , people and financial management . The • Bachelor necessary. Degree in social sciences , public policy , law, finance or a related field . • Significant experience in the public interest or non-governmental organizations , or in the development of government policies. • High level of proficiency ( written and spoken) in English and one major Nigerian language . • Five or more years of administrative experience , including experience and budget control . • Experience or solid knowledge of the practices and procedures of U.S. companies . • Expertise in at least one area of the MacArthur Foundation program of work ( international human rights , population and reproductive health, and development and education. • Proven analytical skills . • Excellent communication skills (verbal , presentation and written). • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a foreign institution which is encouraged between programs and interdisciplinary cooperation . • Demonstrate a commitment to the beliefs and goals of the Foundation organized and efficient at managing multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines . • Ability to organize and communicate problems / issues in written and oral form in the affected areas. • Ability to manage own time and priorities , and staff to perform the work . • Excellent judgment and decision. • Some computer skills a must. • Demonstrated ability to create a work environment that brings out the best in people . • Demonstrate professional growth and development throughout their careers. Additional skills and experience required • Experience in a nonprofit or grant preferred organization. • desire to grow into a position beyond deputy director . • Experience working with international NGOs. SKILLS essential to the success Management Vision and Purpose – The Deputy Director will be with the team , focus on continuous improvement while promoting a culture of accountability and results . With this in mind , the company requires a responsible practice , focused on the team that the credibility scale , and is able to constantly motivate people to act . This person will be a strong leader who can build , inspire and coach, while forging close relationships with other senior leaders of the organization . Strategic Agility – In addition to the expertise in this area , that person must be intellectually strong and clearly able to think on his / her feet while demonstrating exceptional judgment. The Deputy Director must possess analytical skills to help effectively drive creativity, improve overall productivity and raise the status of the Foundation to achieve its objectives in Nigeria. Process and results-oriented – the new deputy director should be performance-based and capable of providing measurable results , while following the process of due diligence . The successful candidate will be resourceful , action-oriented , and have a proactive emergency and the ability to overcome obstacles to deliver results in a timely way. To achieve these objectives while working in a collaborative environment will require the political sense to know when to push the action and when to step back and build consensus . Collaborative / strong communicator – This person must have strong persuasion skills and communication , real partnership with the director. He or she must be comfortable , eloquent and dynamic to internal and external audiences, including colleagues and customers and suppliers . He / she will direct , honest and have strong skills in conflict resolution. It will include effective negotiation skills with all components inside and outside the Foundation.
