Baluyut MACABEBE, Pampanga, July 1 (PIA) -- National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) unveiled on Tuesday, June 25, the “Battle of Macabebe” marker in front of the municipal hall to commemorate the revolt and eventual victory of the townspeople against the Spanish colonizers in 1898. This marker is a recognition and a salute to our forefathers who sacrificed their lives for the country),” said NHCP Deputy Executive Director Carminda Arevalo. Our revolutionaries have shown in this four-day battle, which began on June 25, their desire to attain freedom which led to Spain to retreat in the town and the confiscation of their artillery),” Arevalo added. Based on historical accounts, revolutionary soldiers led by General Isidoro Torres attacked the forces of Spain which resulted to the latter’s retreat on June 28.
