NICKY LAW can’t wait to go back to his roots tomorrow and reckons Sheffield Wednesday will give Rangers their toughest test of the pre-season campaign. The midfielder began his career with the Owls’ rivals Sheffield United – starting for them in the Premiership against Manchester United at 18 - and grew up in the area as a child. As such, Law will have lots of friends and family at Hillsborough cheering him on as they get to see him playing in his new colours. Now 25, the former Motherwell star has been delighted with the progress Ally McCoist’s men have made in the summer warm-up games. And he believes the trip to South Yorkshire will be the ideal way to determine exactly what sort of shape they’re in ahead of Sunday’s Ramsdens Cup tie with Albion Rovers. Law said: “I’m really looking forward to the Wednesday match because it’s a game back home for me, only 10 or 15 minutes away from where I live. “I used to play for United and it’s a great city. They love their football down there and they’ll be expecting a good crowd I’m sure. “Wednesday are a Championship side and they’re a big, strong team. I think that’ll be our toughest game of pre-season. “That’s why we’ve left that one until last, because it’ll give us a gauge of where we are going into the new campaign. “The most important thing for us is that we’re playing good football and we feel fit as well so it’ll be a good test. “It’s a fixture we are all relishing and it’ll be a great occasion in a great stadium with lots of Rangers fans cheering us on. “I’ve had a few calls from friends looking for tickets and it’s a huge game for Wednesday as well with us coming to town and the crowd we will bring. “I’ll have some family there and they’ll be able to see me playing for the club for the first time.” //Stevie
