NICO NORTH-EAST CELEBRATES AS RENOVATION OF ZONAL OFFICE COMMENCES A new chapter has been opened in the history of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), with the approval, by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, of the rehabilitation/renovation of the North-East zonal office in Yola, Adamawa State. Ayakoroma, who, on the 16th of August, 2010, had identified staff welfare as top priority when he paid a 2-day walking visit to the zonal head office and courtesy call on Governor Murtala Hammanyaro Nyako of Adamawa state in Yola, promised to transform the zonal head office to a befitting standard that would enable staffers to perform their functions under a conducive atmosphere. The Zonal Coordinator, Malam Isma’ila Ahmad and staffers of the zonal office, were full of praises for Ayakoroma’s clear vision, quality leadership and commitment to transform NICO to a world class institution, as the contractors arrived the zonal head office for the commencement of the project. The Zonal Coordinator, on receiving the contractors, informed the Adamawa State Urban Planning and Development Authority (ASUPDA), through whose authority the office was allocated to the Institute; they sent a team of experts to study the work plan and offered professional advice. Ahmad said he was overwhelmed with joy and believed that Ayakoroma’s passion for the revival of the culture sector has restored the justifiable pride and determination of the Institute in pursuing cultural orientation in the Nigerian nation, adding that the project was an effort geared towards realizing the overall objectives and mandate of NICO in the zone, stressing that, “it would further spread the activities of the Institute at the grass root in the north-east.” He, however, advised the contractors to do a good job as there would be no excuse for not executing the job according to the specifications in the design. The renovation of the Institute’s Zonal Head Office is significant and a dream come true for all the committed and dedicated NICO North-East staffers and they can now hold their heads high as proud cultural ambassadors in the zone.
