NIGERIA NEITHER SECURE NOR WELL MANAGED – BUHARI Former Head of State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has taken a cursory look at the country, and concluded that Nigeria is neither secure nor well managed. Buhari, an APC presidential aspirant who made the assertion yesterday during a courtesy call on the Kwara State governor, *ABDULFATAH AHMED*, noted that what the Nigeria needs at this time is an efficiently managed and secured country. He made the statement at the Government House, Ilorin. His words: “I believe what Nigeria needs now is to be well secured and efficiently managed. This is the APC stand and I will like to use this opportunity on my part to speak on the need for the system to secure and efficiently manage Nigeria. Of course Nigeria is not well managed and you all know it. “I contested Presidency three times and I lost three times and I ended up in Supreme Court three times. We thank God that the constitution did not limit how many times you can contest at whichever stage once you are 18 years and above and it did not put age limit as well. “I have tried ruling this country before in a different system, and from 1999 till now, I am sure you know what happened or what has been happening. I believe what Nigeria needs now is to be secured and efficiently managed.” Commenting on the possibility of a consensus presidential candidate rather than conducting primaries in APC, the elder statesman said such will be determined by the party. “It is up to our party and the people. All we need is a fair play ground for everybody. Let Nigerians be given the impression and let them believe that it is not a do or die matter. All these efforts to salvage the nation is for them and for the country. If there is a consensus arrangement, it should not be forced on the people. “In fact, this will save time and resources. But even if the party insists, whatever zones that wants to lead should present themselves. Let the people decide. It is well and good if the system allows it,” he said. On Senator Bukola *SARAKI*’s withdrawal from the presidential race, Buhari maintained that he read the decision in the media. He added: “I read it in the papers. I went there and saw him. I did not beg him to step down for me. But it is his own decision, he has been a governor here twice, he knows the politics of the country. He is known throughout the country. His late father worked extremely hard and virtually established a dynasty voluntarily supported by the people of the state,” he said.
