NIGERIAS CORRUPT SENATE NEGOTIATE BRIBE TO ENDORSE REPORT ON - TopicsExpress

NIGERIAS CORRUPT SENATE NEGOTIATE BRIBE TO ENDORSE REPORT ON MISSING PETRO-BILLIONS Remember my article about corruption under Jonathan’s administration starting with 2.6trillion spent on fuel subsidy in 2011, a year that only 245 billion Naira was appropriated for same. There was also a N32 billion police pension scam; industrial scale theft of crude oil worth about $2 billion monthly; N53 billion NCC spectrum scale racket; 24 million barrels of oil worth $1.6 billion stolen through signature forgery monthly according to minister Aganga and the bullet proof car scam involving former aviation minister Stella Odauh? In that article, I also did mention that GEJ’S administration spent a whooping N400 billion on amnesty programme without anything to show for it. About the same period there was N1.7 trillion heist in the NNPC where the money was spent by the co-operation without appropriation This about the same time that Mr President’s Coordinating Minister and Minister for Finance Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iwoala raised alarm in Davos Switzerland that the Nigeria’s economy was under threat because on GEJs watch, the excess crude oil account has been depleted from $8.55 billion to an alarming $2.5 billion within a year and so also has our foreign reserves depleted? Following the huge outcry by ordinary citizens, Nigeria’s ‘’corrupt senate’’ was forced to begin an investigation into one of the cases; the N1.7 trillion heist in NNPC, a mind blowing ‘’official stealing’’ that was exposed by the former Central Bank Governor Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. But as earlier suspected, Nigeria’s Senate has been compromised in the ongoing investigation. A credible source at the Nigerian Senate has told my source that members of the Senate Committee on Finance led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi have been offered unspecified amounts of bribe by agents of Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to endorse the committee’s interim report on billions of dollars in crude oil sales that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, claimed were never accounted for. After collecting bribe, the 11-member committee prematurely released an interim account that sought to absolve Ms. Alison-Madueke and NNPC officials, who report to her, of blame in the alleged missing funds. The report dismissed Mr. Sanusi’s assertion that the NNPC had failed to remit between $20 billion and $50 billion of Nigeria’s crude oil earnings with the country’s apex bank. Nigeria’s Senate has been identified as the most reckless and corrupt senate in the world and it is worrisome that members of the two leading political parties PDP and APC are involved in the deep seated corruption that makes it difficult for the senate to carry out its oversight functions. The National Assembly which comprises the lower house and the senate has a total of 469 members, a minuscule number that consumes billions from the annual budget, with little or nothing left to take care of over 172 million other citizens. In 2013, N500 billion was spent on maintaining this lazy group of 469 people in the national assembly while over 10 million Nigerian children were out of school. Because of its involvement in official corruption, the Nigerian senate is unable to hold President Jonathan’s administration accountable, thereby deepening corruption in the polity.
