NLR Board of Education approves settlement of obligations presented to the Desegregation Oversight Committee today The North Little Rock School District Board of Education has approved the Settlement of obligations related to the Little Rock School District v. Pulaski County School District litigation and the 1989 Settlement Agreement pursuant to the agreement presented today to the Desegregation Oversight Committee. (m.arkansasonline/news/2013/nov/14/desegregation-update/) In the alternative, if all three Districts and the State approve the Proposed Settlement Agreement but another party does not approve, the District voted to move forward with a motion to modify the consent decree related to the 1989 Settlement Agreement pursuant to the terms of the Proposed Settlement Agreement. The Proposed Settlement Agreement was drafted by representatives for each District and the Attorney General’s Office and, in order to take effect, must be approved by the Board of each school district in Pulaski County, the Legislative Council, the Governor, the Joshua Interveners, the Knight Interveners, and the Federal District Court. Superintendent Kelly Rodgers of the North Little Rock School District stated, “This Agreement does not provide financing for the entire five year period while North Little Rock completes its Capital Improvement Plan, so we will review programs and staffing needs as ways to reduce costs. However, we are pleased to be a part of the resolution of the over 30 years of litigation in this case.”
