NO GOING BACK ON PDP REFORM~TUKUR• In an apparent reference to the members of the breakaway Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the national chairman of the mainstream PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, yesterday said there would be no going back in the ongoing reforms within the party. Tukur, who spoke when he received three groups, which included, Society for Defence for Democracy, Hope for New Nigeria Global Initiative and the Arewa Political Women Frontiers, at the partys office in Abuja, said: “I can assure you in our journey to rebuild our party based on equity and justice, there is no going back. Our process of election, no selection is what is going to happen. Our philosophy of consensus, not imposition is what is going to happen. “Each and every member of PDP will have a platform to express their own intention if they are ready, and be supported by the majority, they will realise it by the grace of God.” Speaking further, Tukur said: “So, no going back in this struggle to entrench democracy and good governance in our country. No going back on seeking peace, unity and reconciliation of our differences. I want all of you to understand where our family is and family always will adjust and move forward and do what is the best interest of the family. “What I am going to assure you here is the inclusiveness of our party. It is a political party but it is also a family platform. No stranger in our political party, we are all stakeholders.” He charged the three groups to continue to spread the message of peace throughout the country, saying: “Go ahead with this gospel of unity, the gospel of oneness and the gospel of being our brother’s keeper.” Earlier, the National Coordinator of Society for Defence of Democracy, Mohammed Musa Bago, who led his group on the visit, said the group would mobilise 37 million people for the PDP in March 2014, stressing that the mobilisation would commence from the North with 19 million people from the 19 northern states. “Why are they afraid of Tukur? We will tell them that we are tired of their leadership in the North,” Bago added. He berated the splinter PDP for their constant attack on Tukur and their criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan, saying most of the governors championing the fight were in their second term and, therefore, seeking relevance. “Let them show us what they have done in the eight years they have been in office,” Bago said. He expressed the willingness of the group to mobilise support for the party and win the 2015 election, adding that the G7 governors considered themselves as indispensable in the PDP. Similarly, Arewa Political Women Frontiers, yesterday threw its weight behind the Tukur-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, saying women in the North are tired of rumours and are ready to support the leadership of the mainstream PDP. Leader of the group, Hajiya Ramatu Mohammed, said the frontier would do all it could to mobilise women in the North to join the PDP and secure electoral success in 2015. “As a genuine pressure group committed to the emancipation of poverty in the North, we will mobilise support for President Jonathan in 2015,” she added. Also speaking, the National Coordinator of Hope for New Nigeria Global Initiative, Mr. Kingsley Isong, said the Bamanga-Hope project was aimed at mobilising support for the party in 2015.
