#NUTSHELL – SEPTEMBER 1ST — A CALL TO MINISTRY – Romans 11:33-36: Amy’s call to India didn’t just happen by chance. God was preparing Amy for His work throughout her life. He trained her in Japan, Sri Lanka and at the mills in Belfast. Even as a very young child, Amy remember God’s leading. “A little girl came and stood near the door and looked in…Delicious cakes and sweets were set out in that window. As we left the tea shop we saw the little girl with her face pressed close to the glass…She was a poor little girl in a thin, ragged dress. It was raining and her bare feet on the pavement looked very cold…Then I remember sitting by the nursery fire and writing in large letters on scrap paper…a little rhyme. ‘When I grow up and have money, I know what I will do I’ll build a great big lovely place for little girls like you.’ I had entirely forgotten this promise but there is One who remembers even a child’s promises, and though the little girls who were to come…were not to be the least like that little girl…they were in need, far greater need than she was and the wonderful thought of our Father was far, far greater than mine. He had sons as well as daughters in His heart that day.” Have you ever stopped to think that YOU are being trained for your life’s work now? God may not call you to go to the mission field or even to serve in Christian ministry but He’s called all of us to tell others about His love. Who are you telling? Amy’s call to India came in her youth. She was meant to do something great for God and He prepared her for it every step of the way. God even gave Amy her unique personality so that she could accomplish His will. She was stubborn, daring and determined—all good qualities for someone meant to serve God in far-off countries. Her empathy, love and compassion also helped. After Amy took in each little girl and boy, she became their mother, their friend and their gateway to Christ’s love. Amy was just an ordinary woman with an extraordinary God.
