NYANDARUA PUBLIC WATCHDOG COMMITTEE NYANDARUA COUNTY 17th November 2014 HONOURABLE NDERI NDIANI CEC MEMBER IN CHARGE OF FINANCE & PLANNING NYANDARUA COUNTY Dear Sir, RE: USE OF OFFICIAL COUNTY VEHICLES, MILEAGE CLAIMS ON PRIVATE VEHICLES AND FUELLING OF PRIVATE VEHICLES OWNED BY COUNTY OFFICIALS We would wish to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment as the Nyandarua County CEC in charge of Finance and Planning. Indeed this is a great honour and privilege not only to yourself as an individual but to thousands of youths across the county. We are writing to you this routine letter to inquire on the policy status on use of county official vehicles by county officials including the CEC members outside the official working hours and outside the official duties. We are aware of the authorization by the Governor for the various CEC members to drive themselves in county official vehicles if there is need for that. This authorization begs the question of what is the official policy of use of county vehicles. The other issue we would like to get a clarification on from you is the issue of mileage claims by county officials who use their private vehicles while on official duties. Would you kindly provide us with information on the county officials entitled to mileage claims and how much money has been paid on such claims so far. Last but not the least we are interested in the county government expenditure on fuel and we are requesting for the figures for fuelling expenses since the coming into the office of the county government. We would also be grateful if you are able to provide details of the county officials and the number of privately owned vehicles that are benefiting or have benefited from county fuel. We are positive that constructive engagements between the county government of Nyandarua and the people of Nyandarua could foster transparency and accountability in governance and that sharing of crucial information and policy imperatives will enhance mutual trust and confidence between those in government and the governed. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon. Yours sincerely, Chege Thiari- Convener, Nyandarua County Public Watchdog Committee. cc : 1. H.E. the Governor of Nyandarua County. 2.
