NZ Day 10 of 89. So my scooter started 1st try 2 days ago when I picked it up from Daves place. He did a most excellent job of taking care of it these past 9 months. He has offered to do the same again for this year. So thats one less thing to worry about. I took my scooter into the shop yesterday and it passed its Warrant of Fitness and the new drive belt and new clutch rollers have really smoothed out the bottom end. It turns out the problem with the headlights was caused by the dealership in Wellington putting the wrong headlight bulbs in at the start of my trip last year. They used a 60/55watt bulbs instead of the 35/35watt that is recommended. I will get the Wellington shop to replace them when I head there to take the ferry to the South Island next week. I purchased NZAA roadside assistance this year because the South Island is a lot more remote and getting help can be trickier. My cellphone coverage should be good though. So having a number to call for help should relieve my stress level. Im all settled in my hostel here at the Harbourside right downtown Tauranga. Ill be putting on my dancing shoes tonight and heading for the Bahama Hut. But only for 3 hours tonight as I have an early start with my new NZ friend Alan S. who has a 650 Burgman and is going to take me on an all day ride around to Rotorua thru the back roads. Should be a great day for it. The day I was leaving Auckland at the bus terminal I met an 80 year old gentleman from France who has been coming to NZ each European winter for the past 20 years. I told him I will be very happy if I can follow in his foot steps. On the bus I had a young lady sit up front with from a dairy farming community in the mid South Island between Invercargill & Dunedin and we had an amazing conversation for 2 hours. She had studied Ecology & Environmental Studies at University. A very bright and informative young girl. At the hostel I have made friends easily and I had two great night sleeps so far with conversations going on until midnight. Most of the kids at the hostel havent been to Canada yet but most say it is on their to do list. Most of them are on a 1 year working Visa in NZ. Their English is very good and its fun to listen to their stories. We have had perfect weather so far here in Tauranga. Slight over cast but upper 20s during the day and cool nights. Which is good because my room is on the 3rd floor and Im sure it can get very hot up there. Alan & his wife have invited me to stay with them in their beautiful home for a bit and I may take them up on it. Cheers Everyone.
