This early Eighties album La grande cantatrice Malienne from Na Hawa Doumbia is absolutely stunning. Na Hawa Doumbia, known as La reine du Didadi (style of music from Southern Mali) sings Wassoulou music, which hails from the southern region of Sikasso in Mali. She rose to international acclaim in the Eighties, and her daughter Doussou Bagayoko continued her singing tradition. The albums musical director is NGou Bagayoko, who plays guitar and does the arrangements for the album. He is also a monster musician. This re-issue is currently available from Awesome Tapes From Africa on vinyl and should definitely be picked up before they stop pressing it.
