Namaskara... Bengaluru... Namaskara.... Bengaluru.... I turn slowly with bewildered astonishment and am met with a broad smile in a thronging Florentine crowd just outside the Duomo. I know you. You are Beth. Beth Chapman. You are friends with my wife, Victoire. I could not ask for a more perfect ending to 2014. Running into my French friend Theodore, whom I met in Bangalore, after several years on a piazza in Florence made me as joyful as bumping into Sinea after 15 years in a Hawaiian hotel lobby, or learning that my Finnish friend Tuija was (and now has) moving to Brookline, or being asked by another far-flung amie to pick up a Venetian lace wedding kerchief to replace one lost last year (and doing so!), or any number of such delightful random geographic encounters. They simultaneously remind me that I am a truly global citizen and that I am merely a child of the universe, subject to her whims--both of which I am grateful for! My friends are scattered all over the world, and my goodness you all get around! I never know where I will bump into you. This one is in orbit, that one is in Greenland, Hawaii, Mauritius, Finland, Norway, Sweden, France, England, Spain, Australia, Fiji, Thailand, China, Japan, Korea, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Holland, Germany, Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Czech Republic, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Russia, Israel, Haiti, Bahamas, every State in the Union and in India and on and on and on. How blessed I am!!! What a lucky, lucky woman that such a twist of fate has tossed me into the universe into your arms. What a marvelous life this is, indeed!!! 2014 was full of trials and I claim them and own them all--they are mine and as much of this marvelous life as meeting my friends in happenstance. I am looking forward to a 2015 full of great growth, exploration, excitement, new experiences, and abounding love. Its off to an absolutely stellar start :))) To my family of friends I choose and those by relation I wish you good health, uplifting light, unending happiness, joy that knows no bounds, love without limits, and above all peace in all aspects of your life and the world in 2015 and always. May the world be your oyster and discovering other countries, cultures, and people your pearl.
