Our Bread & Butter Here is an example of the kind of work that is central to our operations. In this case, we are showing the printing of franchise agreements; this process is very similar for manuals and many other documents. It all starts with a print-ready file, in this case supplied by the client. The file consists of a coloured print section, followed by the actual contract printed in black and white. In order to reduce costs we print the coloured section on our colour press and, the black and white section on our high volume copiers. Both sections are printed 2-up to optimize cost and speed. The job is then trimmed to the finished size (8-1/2x11), manually collated, including the addition of covers. The job then moves to bindery, where the books are “punched”, 20 sheets at a time to create the die-cut holes used for binding the book. The binding method that we are using here is “Wire-o-Bind” which requires inserting a pre-folded wire spine into the die-cut holes and then closing the open gap in the spine with a custom “clincher”. Once the back cover is turned back to its final location thereby covering up the clenched seam, the book is ready to be packed into waiting cartons and then shipped to the client. The process is very flexible and it allows us to insert additional items, if required. Typically this could include digital media, collateral sales material or training items. And of course, there are a variety of options available to bind the documents, such as: cerlox, plastic coil and velo-bind. The good news is that this bread and butter process is suitable for almost any kind of volume, whether it is one or two documents, or a larger number like the 450 agreements shown here.
