Nathaniel is dressed in street clothes, although still in hospital grippy socks, waiting for the discharge papers. As he headed out (walking!) to visit the Teen Room here in the Heme/Onc ward just now, he stopped at the door and said, Mama, this whole month has been something I never want to do over, but at the same time I wouldnt want it to have never happened. I asked, What did you learn? He said, A few lifetime lessons: I can be afraid and do it anyway, especially with impossible stuff like needles. I learned how important visits are for people in the hospital so now I know to volunteer and visit at hospitals. And I found my career. I was never sick or in this medical world before, so I never would have known that Im supposed to be a doctor. And he went out the door, to visit with the other patients here one more time. Everyone reading, please take a moment to pray for Nates friend Darien, a brave and beautiful 19yo who was struck with sudden illness the same time as Nate, only Darien as leukemia and is not going home today. Thank you!
