National Conference Divides Jigawa Youths By: MUH’D ZANGINA KURA on October 28, 2013 - 6:00am The division among Jigawa State youths has become visible as the two factions of the National Youth Council(NYCN) in the state differ on the proposed national conference. The factional youth council under the chairmanship of Comrade Nura Yakubu has dismissed the statement issued by another faction of the association under the chairmanship of Comrade Aminu Aminu in which Aminu expressed the support of the state’s youths to the proposed national dialogue. Comrade Yakubu explained that, the statement credited to comrade Aminu does not represent the opinion of Jigawa’s youths, and also described it as baseless and self centred. This was contained in a press statement signed by the chairman of the NYCN Comrade Nura Yakubu and issued to LEADERSHIP in Dutse. According to the statement, “ attention of the state executive council of Jigawa State chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria has been drawn to the press conference addressed by one Aminu Aminu where he claimed to be the chairman of the council. “It is untrue that the council supports the national conference under whatever guise”, adding that, “in as much as the council holds opinions on national and state issues, it usually take a position after deliberations by the various arms of its leadership”. The statement further distanced the council from the conference and the position while at the same time advised youths in the state to remain focused and resist any attempt to be misguided by certain individuals. The chairman said the NYCN will continue to remain resolute in its effort to make the youths in the state take their rightful position in any issue. This crisis between two function of youth council came at the time state Governor Sule Lamido promise not sent any representative from his state, describing the conference as unconstitutional and a diversionary tactics.
