National Current Affairs ================= 1. Senior BJP legislator Haribhau Bagde was elected unopposed as new Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today. His name was announced by Protem Speaker Jiva Pandu Gavit in the newly-constituted Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde has been appointed as Leader of Opposition in the House. 2. Former Indian Cricket team Captain Kapil Dev launched SloPho, a social platform that will allow users to win prizes in games, contests, polls and quizzes on daily basis. The total prize money will be around Rs 25,000 daily and it will increase during special promotions and festival periods. 3. Famous filmmaker Ravi Chopra passed away in a Mumbai hospital today. He was 68. Son of late B.R. Chopra, Ravi was also known for directing films like The Burning Train, Baabul and Baghban etc. He became famous after directing the hit TV serial Mahabharata in the late eighties which was produced by his father B R Chopra. 4. The 25th Summit of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) started today at Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. This Summit will see discussion on the future directions of the ASEAN Community beyond 2015. 5. Tech giant Yahoo announced its acquisition of digital video advertising service BrightRoll for USD 640 million. This deal will help the Internet Company to expand its video advertising platform and help it to compete with other online ad-servicing players like Google and Facebook. 6. IT services company Cognizant has announced the acquisition of Odecee, which provides digital solutions to enterprises in the Australia and New Zealand region. This is Cognizant’s third acquisition in last 3 months.
