National Old School Basketball League XIII Update, 24 September 2014: The second game between the Nets and Sparks turned out to be a battle to the end. I was happy to see the Sparks return after their disqualification on 18 September 2014. My goal and responsibility is to keep every team in the league for the entire season. I look for the Sparks to become a strong/stable team as we continue. The first half started with the Nets receiving a tip-off violation for not allowing the basketball to reach its peak. So, the first possession went to the Sparks. The Nets started the game as if they were on a mission to blow the Sparks out of the gym. They jumped out to a double-figure lead that they maintained throughout the first half. It took a while for the Sparks to adjust, but once they began to score, the competition was on. The Nets Kevin Douglas (#22) led his team with 15 first half points. Ben Harris (#3) and R. Thomas (#32) led the Sparks with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The first half ended with the Nets leading 41 to 30. Both teams scored over 30 points in the second half. The Nets were led by #22 K. Douglas, #33 C. Jones, #42 W. Walker, and #21 K. LaFavor. Their center, S. Woodson (#44), did an excellent job neutralizing the paint on defense. The Sparks fought their way back into the game behind the shooting of #24 A. Mathis, #3 B. Harris, and #32 R. Thomas. The Nets defeated the Sparks 73 to 69. The top scorers for the Sparks were #3 B. Harris with 24 points, #32 R. Thomas with 20 points, and #24 A. Mathis with 19 points. The top scorers for the Nets were #22 K. Douglas with 23 points, #42 W. Walker with 14 points, #33 C. Jones with 13 points, and #21 K. LaFavor with 11 points.
