Natural Resources Wales claim to be the modern, open and community - TopicsExpress

Natural Resources Wales claim to be the modern, open and community friendly environmental agency. In many respects it is a pioneering approach to countryside management, and certainly the body has some very dedicated staff having to deal with resourcing and political challenges. Sadly, they also have some ex CCW staff blinded by personal agenda and a fundamental dislike of red squirrels because the presence of this species in Newborough played a part in the outcry in 2004 and 2009 over massive forest felling proposals. Im sick to the back teeth of local ex CCW staff knocking red squirrel conservation; theyre two Anglesey staff in particular that might be advised to be much more professional and to keep personal grudges and mis-information about red squirrel ecology to themselves. Any suggestion of deliberate felling of trees because they contain red squirrel nests is a disgrace, and suggesting that the forest population can be sacrificed or ignored because we have managed to restore reds elsewhere on Anglesey belies a failed management culture. Since 2009/10, of the three national Welsh red squirrel projects, Anglesey has had 2% of the NRW funding, with almost £250,000 going elsewhere. That statistic in itself indicates that there are major issues to resolve in how the agency supports red squirrels on Anglesey.
