Near Habarana, at Hurulu Eco Park (part of the Hurulu Forest Reserve) there is an important habitat of the Sri Lankan Elephant. It is estimated that approximately 600 elephants have their habitat here.The park covers an area of 10,000 hectares and it was designated as a biosphere reserve in January 1977. Moreover, Hurulu forest reserve represents Sri Lanka dry-zone dry evergreen forests.
