Need advice please. (Might be a bit long winded and detailed) Our GSD (first ever family dog) is coming up for 2 in May. He has been such a loyal and protective boy. As a pup he was always wanting to play with others and running around off the lead with no worries. However as he has aged, he has become so territorial that it actually frightens us. So much so that we dont tend to take him where we know other dogs will be as he cant be trusted off the lead and is becoming such a big strong dog that when he does pull it can be very hard to control. He has never ever been vicious but the worry of him becoming vicious scares us. When he has been off the lead and ran towards other dogs he does usually bark and other owners will panic as expected with such a big dog but he usually just wants to play still but of thee other dog goes on the defence and nips at him then he can get his back up but thankfully Ive been there quickly to prevent anything happening. We live in a terraced house which doesnt have a front garden (he gets more than enough exercise before have any comments about house being too small!!) this causes him to bark everytime someone walks past the window. We used to have him in our office but again barks at anyone who walks past windows. Out in the car he will bark at motorcycles or cyclists behind us. He also barks at any other dogs he sees and also anyone in hi-via jackets. Anyone that is invited into the house has to be done with care as he will charge and bark. Even when introduced slowly to the visitor he will occasionally bark at them if given the chance. We know our house will never be a target for thieves that is for sure as everyone is aware he is here. But what actually worries is if this is not normal and we are worried sick that if he did bite anyone that we would lose him. He is the biggest softest dog going, he shares his bed with the cat, infact the cat is the boss of the house and the dog knows it. We have a 7yr old and he is so protective of him too. He has his playmates (boxer dogs) that we bump into now and then that he he has known since he was 4 months old and plays with them no problem and no vicious or territorial attitude. His hair does stand up when he barks and his body goes stiff which worries us. He still has a lot of learning to do and will listen to a lot of commands but this certainly worries us and want some advice, we have been thinking that its time to muzzle now etc... Any help or advice, are we worrying too much? Thanks and sorry so long winded lol.
