Need help paying for an education? Earning an education is one - TopicsExpress

Need help paying for an education? Earning an education is one of the best ways a woman can ensure her economic autonomy; therefore the Women’s Economic Council Foundation (WECF) is now accepting applications for scholarships. The deadline is September 1st. The WECF has awarded three scholarships to graduating Tennessee high school girls and three scholarships to female non-traditional students each year since 2007. In addition to academic achievement the Foundation considers leadership and community activities in its selection process. Pat Pierce, chair of the scholarship committee says, “It is a part of our mission to recognize these women by assisting with the cost of their education.” Partners to this effort contribute funds so that six scholarships will be provided to these traditional and non-traditional students. “We are proud to be a continuing partner in this project,” says UPS Director of Finance Veronica Floyd. “As we support student growth through education via financial support, we hope to make a lasting impact with the individual and ultimately the community. These are our future leaders and our future customers.” State Representative Karen Camper, Vice Chair of the Tennessee Economic Council on Women and Maleia Evans, also a TECW member; serve as co-chairs on the committee. “These scholarships provide much needed financial assistance to students who are pursuing their educational dreams,” said Rep. Camper. Students have such a great need for financial support, adds Evans. Almost immediately after sharing the information about the scholarships on my social media feeds, I began receiving calls and emails seeking more information about how to apply. This is a good indication that competition for these scholarships will be strong. So, I encourage every woman in Tennessee who is pursuing an education in 2015 to consider the WECF Scholarships as a tool to help you be successful. Scholarship information will be accepted through September 1st via the WECF website, and awards will be presented on October 20 at the Economic Summit for Women at the Nashville Airport Marriott.
