Nepal and UAE seal World Twenty20 spots 27 November 2013 16:09 Nepal and the United Arab Emirates will play in the ICC World Twenty20 for the first time next year after qualifying on Wednesday. The Nepalese sealed their place in the showpiece tournament in Bangladesh with a dramatic five-wicket victory over Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi. Sharad Vesawkar (13 not out) took 10 runs off the first two balls of a tense final over and the single needed to win off the last delivery as Nepal chased down Hong Kongs total of 143-8 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Nepal were also indebted to skipper Paras Khadka, who top scored with 46, and a spell of 3-32 from seamer Jitendra Mukhiya as they reached the semi-finals of the World T20 qualifiers - but more importantly sealed their passage to Bangladesh. UAE beat the Netherlands by 10 runs at the same venue to ensure they will make their maiden appearance at the World T20. The hosts could only post 117-8, with seamer Ahsan Malik (4-17) doing the damage and captain Khurram Khan top scoring with a brisk 32 from 24 deliveries. But Peter Borrens side came up short as first as spinners Nasir Aziz (3-21) and Shadeep Silva (1-9) produced impressive spells to see the UAE through. The Netherlands will get another opportunity to qualify for the World T20 when they face Scotland on Thursday after the Scots beat Italy by seven wickets on Wednesday. Hong Kongs hopes of qualifying are also still alive as they will face Papua New Guinea on Thursday, with the winner assured a ticket to Bangladesh. PNG beat Namibia by 25 runs to stay in contention to qualify. Ireland and Afghanistan have already qualified after topping their groups in the UAE, but it is the end of the road for Italy and Namibia following their defeats on Wednesday.
