Never Forget – War is not pretty. As we listen today to the tactics used to obtain information from terrorists – never forget those that were killed by the terrorists. Let us learn from the information and let us grow as a nation, but let us never feel sorry for the terrorists. A terrorist, a coward, buried a bomb along a route that our military used in Iraq. He buried it and left it to be run over by a vehicle with three 21 year old young men in it. They blew up the vehicle – blew my son’s body apart. Then the vehicle burned –leaving a charred hole in the ground. When they brought Ben’s body home he was in plastic bags covered by a uniform. There was no forehead to kiss goodbye, no hand to hold one last time. I stood by his open casket to let our immediate family say goodbye to what was left. Pardon me if I don’t feel sorry. There is a little girl growing up without the father that loved her with all his being. Let us learn. Five months later while driving home from work I received a phone call and had to pull off the road. They had more of Ben’s remains – they had come home in the vehicle he had been killed in. A piece of his skull, brain and arm were found. We would again receive his remains – this time very quietly. Yes, let us learn from the mistakes of our past, but let us never forget what price our young men and women pay on a daily basis. God bless those who served with Ben and lived through this. I pray for you daily and love you very much. I will not feel sorry for terrorists.
