Never a fan of Joan Rivers, but the fact that the Broadway - TopicsExpress

Never a fan of Joan Rivers, but the fact that the Broadway bigshots refuse to dim the lights in her honor, as they do for a great many performers who pass, is just not right. She was a huge fan and supporter of On- and Off-Broadway shows and was always in the theater (by her own admission, three times a week), schmoozing with the stars backstage and promoting shows. She also did her own one-woman show as well, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. I actually had a moment with her in NYC. We went to see Patti LuPone in Gypsy. When the show was over, as always, there was a crowd leaving the theater. I was in the aisle and this tiny blonde lady was rushing against traffic to get backstage. It was very crowded and she tried to get by me, but we ended up full-frontal, body-to-body in the crush. We could not have been any closer. She looked up and said Excuse Me and, sure enough, it was Joan Rivers. We also saw her at the Metropolitan Opera. I remember that vividly, because she was sitting four rows behind us, and I reveled in the fact that we had better seats than she did. Ah, lifes little pleasures... RIP Joan Rivers.
