Neville Routs Carroll... Monroe, LA (Bill Ruple Stadium) Four solid quarters in all three phases of the game. This has been Neville head coach Mickey McCarty’s mantra all season long. Ever the perfectionist, McCarty isn’t sure if he’s gotten that out of his team yet, but he’s happy with what he saw on Friday night at Bill Ruple Stadium. The Tigers (4-0) sent the homecoming crowd home happy with a 51-6 win over Carroll. Neville dominated from the opening kickoff, finding the end zone on offense, defense and special teams. “Everybody pitched in tonight. I thought we played well overall. We’ll look at the film and see how good it was,” McCarty said. “I’m proud of our team for going out there and handling our business.” Kavontae Turpin may not have been crowned homecoming king, but he gave the Tiger faithful something to talk about at the dance on Saturday. The junior receiver scored on an 18-yard run on Neville’s first offensive possession, then followed it up with an electric 50-yard punt return. When the night was over, Turpin had amassed 98 all-purpose yards. “(Turpin) just continues to make big plays. He’s got that ability every time he touches the ball so we have to continue to find ways to get it to him,” McCarty said. As the final score would indicate, it was a long night for Carroll. The Bulldogs (1-3) turned it over eight times — including an interception by Spencer Brooks that he took back for a 24-yard touchdown. Brooks was also responsible for two more turnovers after recovering a pair of fumbles. “Right when I picked it off, I knew I had to get in there in score,” Brooks said. “You end up making big plays when you expect to be a ball hawk every play.” Neville quarterback Andre Fuller scored a rushing touchdown for the fourth consecutive week, but limped off the field late in the second quarter and didn’t return to the game. McCarty said Fuller was held out as a precautionary measure and that he should be fine. “The doctors checked him out at halftime, and I don’t think there’s much to it,” McCarty said. With a 44-0 lead at halftime, most of the Tiger starters joined Fuller on the bench by the midway point of the third quarter. Running backs Juquarius Emerson and William Wooten scored their first touchdowns of the season. Kicker Brian Barefoot also drilled two field goals — including a 45-yarder. Carroll returns to the Dog Pound next week to host Ouachita, while Neville heads to Bossier City to take on Airline.
